Sadie Chase has spent most of her life fighting brain cancer, with her devoted father, Tom, at her side. When the boy she loves goes silent and her doctors say her time is short, she convinces Tom to drive her from Los Angeles to Denver to find him. Along the way, a roadside mechanic, a kitschy alien shop, and a detour through Tom's hometown reopen old wounds, including the mother who walked out on them.
